About Us

Derbyshire Racing is a small, friendly horse racing syndicate based in the Midlands that offers affordable and genuine racehorse ownership.

Formed in October 2005, the emphasis is placed firmly on fun, value for money and owner involvement and we take great pride in running what we firmly believe to be one of the best horse racing syndicates in the UK.

We offer genuine shares of 2.5% upwards in our syndicate horses and our monthly fees, which include all training and racing expenses, are one of the most competitive you will find in the UK.

Because we are a small syndicate, we can pay attention to detail to ensure each of our members gets the most out of their ownership experience and at a value for money price.

Our Horses

We currently have 7 horses with our trainer John Mackie, who’s stables are situated within the beautiful Barton Blount country estate near Church Broughton, South Derbyshire :-

ILLUSTRIOUS FOREST is our latest aqcuisition and is a lovely, big, 4 year old chestnut gelding that we expect to mature into decent prospect. A full brother to the yards Fantino, a 4 time winner at trips up to 1m6f, Illustrious Forest has been lightly raced to date and has needed to to mature into himself. He won impressively at Wolverhampton on his debut for Derbyshire Racing over a trip of 1m4f in December 2011 and followed it up by winning over C&D in Feb 2012 off a 14lb higher mark.Having also schooled well at home, he should make up into a dual purpose prospect in 2012.

He is by the sire Shinko Forest and out of a tough dam family that has produced multiple Group and Listed winners in France and the USA, including the high class Talloires, a Group 2 winner over 1m4f in the USA and placed in mutiple Group 1 races in the USA and Italy.

VANILLA RUM was aqcuired from the Henry Candy yard in September 2010 and was given time to mature over the winter months. A winner over 6f for his previous yard, Vanilla Rum ran well on his debut for Derbyshire Racing over 7f and a mile but has shown recently that he needs a step up in trip to 1m2f+ after getting outpaced in his races. He won his first race for Derbyshire Racing at Wolverhampton in January 2012 and seems a horse thats re-discovering his form.

Vanilla Rum's sire is the high class, unbeaten Group 1 winning Australian stallion Reset, winner of the Australian Guineas and Futurity Stakes. His grandsire is the champion sire Zabeel, who has sired no less than 39 individual Group 1 winners!

The dam side is equally strong. His dam Snoozy is an unraced mare by the Group 1 winning sire Cadeaux Genereaux and is from the family of top class performers such Lemon Souffle, Caramba and the Portland handicap winner Matinee.

AEGEAN DESTINY is a well bred 5 year old mare by the top class Group 1 winning sire Beat Hollow. She is from a very good middle distance family that includes the high class Eva Luna and Media Luna and she is closely related to St Ledger winner Brian Boru together with the 2010 Epsom Derby winner Workforce and the high class Sea Moon. Her grand dam Petralona, a full sister to Workforce's grand dam Eva Luna, has produced the high class NH performers Big Moment and Pressgang.

She matured into a much stronger filly during 2011 and enjoyed a good Autumn, winning her first race for Derbyshire Racing at Newcastle in September and then winning on her hurdling debut at Uttoxeter in November. She is tough and genuine and looks like making up into a decent prospect over hurdles.

ARIZONA JOHN, a 7 year old bay gelding by Rahy out of Group 1 winning mare Preseli, has been an absolute star for the syndicate, winning 1m Class 4 handicaps at Redcar and Yarmouth in 2009 and Class 3 handicaps at Pontefract and Catterick over 1m2f and 1m4f in 2010. In total he has amassed over £23,000 in win and place prizemoney for his owners.

Things did'nt really go his way during 2011 but he has consequently slipped down the handicap ratings and, with hurdling still to come, his owners can look forward to an exciting 2012 with him.

IMPECCABLE GUEST, an 9-year-old bay mare, looked to be an exciting recruit to the jumping game in the 2006/2007 season when winning her first two hurdle races but has had some niggling problems since and she has now been retired as a broodmare for Derbyshire Racing.

She produced a beautiful filly foal for us on 28 April 2010 by the leading British first season sire in 2008 Lucky Story, sire of Group One winner Art Connoisseur. The plan is to put her filly, called IMPECCABILITY, into training as a two year old in 2012 and to hopefully own a homebred winner! The ultimate in racehorse ownership at any level!

We have had Impeccable Guest covered by 2000 Guineas and Eclipse Stakes winner Refuse to Bend  in May 2011 - if you would like to get involved in our breeding program please contact us for further details as there are still some shares available.

SPHERE, a well bred 7 year old filly by top class racehorse and sire Daylami, was formerly trained by James Fanshawe at Newmarket and won 1 once and was placed 9 times on the flat, including a very good 2nd to future Doncaster Cup winner Askar Tau at Yarmouth.

She was a consistent sort that descends from a top notch staying family and has now retired as a 2nd broodmare for Derbyshire Racing. She, like Impeccable Guest, was covered by Refuse To Bend in May 2011 which should give us the exciting prospect of producing future home bred winners!

If you are interested in further information about Derbyshire Racing and/or to arrange a stable visit to meet the team at Barton Blount Stables then please do not hesitate to contact us – we would be delighted to hear from you.

Kind Regards,
